Women’s Education in Markala, Mali

In response to local women expressing an interest in learning to read and write but not having funds to cover the cost, a great collaboration was born, Regional Director Tamba Traore set up classes and found teachers , African Sky member Sara Vradenburg initiated finding sponsors, Peace Corps volunteer Amanga Hong was able to get books donated, one for literacy/writing and one for math/numeracy and the local community donated space for classes to be held. We are excited to announce, The women will begin classes October 4, 2010 and will run for one year(three classes per week) for 44 women in Markala. Students will be matched with their sponsor and will communicate through Director Traore building friendships and support.
