AmeriCares Names Gorder Senior Vice President, Global Program Operations

STAMFORD, CT — AmeriCares, a nonprofit global health and disaster relief organization, has promoted Christoph Gorder to the position of Senior Vice President, Global Program Operations. 

In this role, Mr. Gorder leads global activities including AmeriCares Emergency Response program, where he is responsible for directing relief efforts in the wake of natural and man-made disasters around the world and in the United States.  Working to ensure AmeriCares mobilizes immediately to bring aid to disaster victims, Mr. Gorder directs a global supply and distribution system that last year alone delivered more than $850 million in medicines and supplies to a network of health care partners in more than 90 countries.

Since joining AmeriCares in 1998, Mr. Gorder has managed large-scale disaster relief projects in more than a dozen countries, responding to major catastrophic events such as the recent earthquake in Haiti, the Southeast Asia tsunami, the Sichuan Province earthquake in China, Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar, and Hurricane Katrina.  Since 2004, he has also led humanitarian relief efforts in Darfur, delivering medical aid to people displaced by the ongoing violence. 

Mr. Gorder was also responsible for the development and construction of AmeriCares Family Clinic in El Salvador in 2003 and continues oversight of this clinic, which provides primary health care services to more than 40,000 patients per year.

Mr. Gorder, who grew up in West Africa, received both his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and Latin American literature and cultures from New York University.  He currently resides in Bridgeport, CT.
